Senne Lammens' brother has admitted he felt that the Belgian goalkeeper should have joined Galatasaray instead of Manchester United in the summer transfer window, amid fears he would "succumb to the pressure" of life at Old Trafford. Lammens completed an £18 million ($25m) deadline day move from Royal Antwerp as the Red Devils decided against placing a formal offer for Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez.

  Lammens kept on bench for derby

  Days after Lammens moved to Old Trafford, United sent Andre Onana to Trabzonspor on a season-long loan deal. However, the 23-year-old was kept on the bench during the Manchester derby on Sunday as Ruben Amorim stuck with Altay Bayindir between the sticks.

  Missed trophy chance at Galatasaray

  Lammens' brother Tom has now admitted that he initially felt that the Belgian goalkeeper would have been better served by joining Galatasaray over United. Tom Lammens told : "There’s a lot of quality, you play for trophies there [Gala], and Senne could perhaps immediately make his mark in the Champions League. I was initially sceptical about a move to United, because many players there had already succumbed to the pressure and couldn’t reach their full potential."

  Tom Lammens added on what convinced his brother to choose United: "But ultimately, it was Senne who had to make the decision. United gave him the best feeling. Partly because Tony Coton, United’s goalkeeping scout, had been following him for almost a year and was very convinced of his qualities. It would also be great if the club could return to its former glory and if Senne could contribute to that."
